This year was all about pushing the envelope with my releases: Sarvesh Shrivastava aka Sickflip

The electronica solo project of Sarvesh Shrivastava, Sickflip, is a highly regarded music composer, producer and performer. Hailing from Mumbai, Sickflip is famous for his eclectic beats and captivating stage presence. We had a recent interaction with him upon his joining Season 2 of The Lab, a part of the Smirnoff Project’s “We Do We” campaign, which champions collective unity and celebrates diversity. By fostering a sense of togetherness and celebrating individuality through music, The Lab embodies the core values of the “We Do We” campaign. Check out what he has to say in our interaction with Sarvesh Shrivastava aka Sickflip:

Who is Sickflip? What does your name and identity stand for?

Sickflip came about in 2011 when the ‘hey thats SICK’ slang surfaced and ‘Flip’ because I love deep contrasts in music and art. In hindsight, it also carries the virtue of being able to flip the script and flow with inspiration in a more boundless way.

How did The Lab collaboration come about?

This is my 4th time performing for Mixmag Lab and it’s always a pleasure to play for them. With 2 back-to-back performances in Gurugram and Mumbai, it felt like coming back home!

What do you expect in this season and what kind of impact you are looking to make?

You’ll see me play a bunch of Festival sets and come out with some releases that have been pending for a while. This year was all about pushing the envelope with my releases and venturing into sounds & spaces I haven’t explored fully. I will continue to do that for the remainder of the year.

You have recently worked with Shruti Haasan, how was your experience?

We met in my studio to work on a brand project but ended up jamming on our own ideas and came out with 2 solid tracks. The vibes were so good that I ended up asking her to feature as a guest on my set at Supersonic and she happened to say yes! Rest as you all know, is history!

What is your rest of the year looking like?

As mentioned earlier, just playing shows and working on finishing some of the unreleased music that I’ve been road testing in my sets! Exciting times ahead for the Sickflip camp!

Well, that’s that! We continue to keep a tab on Sickflip’s new work so should you. Follow MusiCulture for more on him as well as other talented artists around India and World.
