I want this place to become a safe haven for artists to come by and make music: Rohan Solomon

On the back of a successful 2023, Rohan Solomon has ventured into a combination of Institute of Music, Audio Institute and an ambitious crown jewel Synergy Audio Productions. Under the roof of The Synergy Group, these three streams come together for a bigger vision. While we took a tour of the state-of-the-art studio, we are amazed by the attention to detail and the finesse with which it has been crafted. We took some time out from Rohan Solomon to talk more about this venture of his, read more on what he has to say:

Tell us about your latest venture, the state-of-the-art studio you have set up in Gurgaon, where did the idea stem from?

It’s been a dream of mine for a long time to own and run my own studio and have it be state-of-the-art. Being an independent musician from New Delhi, I’m well versed with the struggle to find a great studio to call home and make great-sounding “international standard” recordings. After working in one of the biggest studios in New York City, I learned to work with the best recording equipment in the world and understood the ins and outs of those. When I moved back to India, I knew exactly what I needed to do and get to make a world-class studio that could parallel most great studios in the world. India has so much talent and we deserve to have a studio like that here, so musicians can truly showcase their talents and get the best for their music.

Technologically, how does it carve its superiority over the others?

It’s a few things that would set us apart. The variety of audio flavour that we offer is certainly unparalleled in North India. The interconnectivity between the rooms is nothing like I’ve seen here before, we have Bantam TT Patchbays which makes it so much easier to manage signal flow. Our Cameras and TVs in each room give us the flexibility to record from whichever room we want, regardless of which control room. Whatever the case may be, the artist can see us and we can see them. We also have a tech shop managed by our electrical engineer, who handles the testing of cables and mics and all our equipment. So everything is tested each morning before every session, hence lowering the chances of faulty cables or carbon-crusted knobs, etc. When our clients are paying for the best, it’s our responsibility to give them that.

Share some of the artist experiences you have had working with, in the studio

Oh my God, there are so many awesome experiences to choose from. It’s hard to pick just one. Each artist brings in their own creativity and workflow and I personally have a lot of fun adapting myself and my workflow to match theirs and make them feel comfortable. Of course, the only way I am able to do that is because I’m so comfortable with all the hardware and software, it’s second nature to me now. Some of the funniest sessions that come to mind have been with artists like Ashish Zachariah, Prabh Deep, Raghav Meattle, Savneet Singh, Joshua Grant, Junkyard Groove, Parikrama, Avantika Bakshi, Shardul Mehta, Hitesh Rikki Madan. These are just the names that are coming to mind as of now. These are just the ones that I engineered personally. I’m sure that my fellow engineers who work at the studio have their own stories to share with other artists as well.

What have been the critical aspects that you ensured are well taken care of while designing this studio?

Acoustic treatment is the most important for a studio, so I wanted to have the best-sounding rooms possible. Working with Munro Acoustics was a real treat as their quality is unparalleled.

What is the bigger vision for the times to come?

I want this place to become a safe haven for artists to come by and make music. I want this to be the choice for artists not just because of the equipment, but also because of the vibe.

What kinds of projects are you working on for the rest of the year 2024?

There are definitely some things that we have lined up. Some album productions, film work, Atmos Mixes and work with corporates as well. It’s nice to be able to offer audio solutions to all sorts of creative folks, not just musicians.

Any additional comments?

I’m just feeling blessed. I get to do this every day and call it “work”. I certainly must have done something right in my past life to be this lucky.

Well, we are sure you have done something “right” not just in your past life, but in the present life too! As we look to the future, we can’t help but look at the possibilities The Synergy Group can create for the music ecosystem.
