Goldie Sohel has been making his mark gradually in the industry. With all his talent, there has been a constant reminder of his presence be it as a lyricist, composer or a singer. He collaborated with none other than Arijit Singh on ‘Bairiya’ and we definitely wanted to know some bits from him about this experience. Here are the excerpts:
This is your first song with Arijit Singh, how did it happen and how was it to record with him?
We were planning to do a song with Sony, I think it was in February of last year. We had the plan to do a single, and Arijit got Amitabh Bhattacharya on board. It was a dream come true for me, working with both legends Amitabh da and Arijit. We discussed how the song should be and how the lyrics should incorporate modern and Indian elements. I went to record Arijit da in Murshidabad, and it was one of my best sessions. It was a dream come true recording the song, and I learned a lot from him. I stayed with him for a couple of days, and they were the best days.
Arijit Singh is rarely seen singing for an independent project. Any specific reason that made him come on board?
Yes, that’s true, he rarely sings in independent music. I know him personally, and he had also heard my song before. So, somewhere, he believed in me and gave me the opportunity to compose for him. We tried a couple of songs. Later, ‘Bairiya’ happened, and he loved it. When we went to record the song and he told me, ‘Aree, bohot acha gana banaya hai’ (you have made a very good song). When I sent him the mix master, he was really happy with it. This gave me confidence in my song and my work. I think Arijit da saying this is huge for me!
The song has received a lot of rave reviews, your reaction on the same?
I feel good about it, and I feel blessed that people are loving our song and getting so much appreciation feels really great.
Your track ‘Aaj Sajeya’ is still one of the top trending songs on social media. How does it feel?
‘Aaj Sajeya’ is also one of my favourite songs, and it feels great when I see people posting it on Instagram, making reels on it, and playing it at their weddings. It has been trending for the last two years, and it feels like a blessing. I am grateful for all the love people are giving to the song and me.
How has the overall journey been for you from the overnight success of ‘Aaj Sajeya’ to ‘Bairiya’?
‘Aaj Sajeya’ has been a great success, but I wouldn’t call it an overnight success. It gained attention slowly and when people started paying attention, they really loved the song. It was a result of hard work and true dedication to music. When you create something from your heart, it will reach people, and you will receive all the love.
Do you think that the growth of independent music has helped you to reach out to a wider audience?
Yeah, the boost of independent music has helped me, and a lot of artists reach a wider audience. I have been doing independent music since my school and college days. I used to write and compose my songs, and we had a band called ‘Sukoon’ where we played all our original compositions. We rarely did covers. I like seeing independent music growing on such a large scale.
What are your upcoming projects?
I am working on a couple of songs, and I am really excited to share them with all of you. We are planning the release day, and once it’s finalized, we will let you all know. I hope you guys will love them too!
Well, the song is beautiful like it has to be with Arijit Singh and Goldie coming together along with Amitabh Bhattacharya. This also means that Goldie has to up his bars in the next ones to come. We will surely keep a watch, you must too!
