UMI team has to be some of the finest people I have worked with: The Rish

Rishabh Kant, popularly known as The Rish, has recently released, ‘Zehreeli,’ a song that takes listeners on an emotional journey through the highs and lows of falling in love. The track captures the whirlwind of emotions that one experiences when they first meet someone special, beginning with the rush of infatuation and evolving into a deep, meaningful connection by the end of the story. We had a brief interaction with him post release, here is what he has to say:

What makes Zehreeli special for you? What elements of the song do you think are unique in terms of the work you have ever done so far?

Even though I come from a classically trained family, the RnB flag-bearers made me want to get into the studio – but I never channelled that fully in Hindi; ‘Zehreeli’ changes that. The crazy part for me is, somehow there’s no Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown kind of Hindi RnB/Pop artists in the country bringing in this genre.

It’s not like it’s not happening out here.

Artists like Jay Sean, Raghav, Honey Singh have been doing it for decades, but it’s all driven in the Punjabi space, where I see so so so much more evolution and inspiration when it comes around to the RnB sound. I want to bring that into the Hindi language; Zehreeli was the beginning and there’s a lot more of where that came from.

I can tell you for sure, you’ll be hearing a lot of Hindi Pop/RnB music in films and on the charts in 2025!

How did the collaboration with UMI come about? What does it mean for you?

The UMI team has to be some of the finest people I have worked with. All an artist needs is, to thrive with a group of people who let an artist be what they want to be.

They have vision, instinct, and great taste.

I have played every phase of my music in listening sessions and have gotten the perfect feedback to upgrade and enhance my music to the next level. I’m very glad UMI picked Zehreeli to release, it’s the perfect start to the new sound that I am tapping in, and I’m happy they were onboard with the vision.

Between independent and label, what have been your lived experiences of pros and cons?

The way I see it, it’s either music that you get to release all by yourself or music you get to release with a team of people who believe in the song as much as you do.

And when so many people believe in something, their energy translates into a record, and it makes way more powerful than what one can do alone.

And as an artist, I’m grateful to have people excited about everything that’s been out!

What are the next few projects lined up for you for the rest of 2024?

With 2024 ending, I’m ending the year with a beautiful rendition of one of my singles called ‘Keh Do Na’ before I gear up for the year I release the best music of my life – 2025!

Well, lets see what will be in the store for 2025, until then, Zehreeli it is!
